We see many people every day who want to treat facial aging here at Davis & Pyle Plastic Surgery. Some of them come in thinking they need a particular treatment - BOTOX® Cosmetic for instance - while others just know there's a particular skin concern they want to treat. It would be quick and easy for us to provide only a single treatment or focus only on a single area, but the reality is that to really combat facial aging, you have to take a comprehensive approach. When developing treatment recommendations, we focus on three distinct areas of the face. In most cases, examining all three of these areas will help our patients achieve the best results.
Changes in Skin Quality
While some people start to notice signs of aging in their 20s, it's really the 30s when most people begin to take a hard look in the mirror and decide to do something to revive their appearance. This is because by your 30s, damage from UV rays and pollutants, loss of collagen, and a slow-down in the rate of natural skin rejuvenation all combine to create wrinkles, lines, and poor skin tone. Treating crow’s feet, laugh lines, thin lips and drooping brows with the appropriate facial injectable or a laser treatment like Fraxel Dual Resurfacing can help, and don't forget the importance of a skincare regimen using medical-grade skincare products like the brands we carry: SkinMedica, SkinCeuticals, Obagi, and more.
Loss of Volume
The loss of facial fat below your skin tends to accelerates in your late 30s and 40s. This leads to the concave or "deflated" look of sunken cheeks, and greatly contributes to an aged appearance under the eyes. The fat pads under the eyes become thinner and descend lower, giving you a hollow, darkened look below the eyes with noticeable and puffy "bags." Weight fluctuations and certain hormonal changes may hasten the loss of facial fat. We can correct volume loss with dermal fillers such as JUVEDERM®, Radiesse® or Sculptra® Aesthetic.
Starting in a person's late 40s and continuing steadily in the following decades, structural changes in the facial muscles and other tissue layers below the skin can cause more dramatic signs of aging. Typical concerns on the lower face include a soft or jowly jaw line, "turkey neck," or double chin, while on the upper face the brow droops, creating a hooded appearance above the eye. Some med spa options may be able to help address these structural changes, but more often the best approach is a surgical procedure such as a face lift or eyelid surgery to reach below the skin for the level of correction needed.
At Davis & Pyle Plastic Surgery we have the ability to correct ALL THREE of these components for a more balanced and natural appearance. If you have even one of these issues, we can provide treatment suggestions to correct and, where possible, limit future signs of aging. Our plastic surgeons have the experience to let you know when a nonsurgical solution will work and when it's time to consider a more extensive surgical procedure.
