Many women who struggle with weight gain and body distortion after childbirth are turning to surgery to get their pre-baby bodies when diet and exercise aren't enough. The increasingly popular "mommy makeovers" typically include a tummy tuck and breast implants and/or lift. As media pressure increases to go from baby bump to bombshell almost immediately, some moms are scheduling this procedure not long after childbirth and asking how soon is too soon?
One of the points cosmetic surgeons agree on regarding mommy makeovers is that every woman's safe period is different and women vary on how long it takes their body to get back to "normal" state. For some women it can be as early as 6 weeks and for others it can be as long as a year. To get the full benefits of surgery you need to make sure your body is fully recovered from pregnancy and you have finished breast feeding at least 3 months prior to ensure the breast have gone back to their natural state. Another point surgeons agree on is a woman should hold off until she is sure she will not have any more children.
If you're thinking about a post-birth mommy makeover, there's something else to keep in mind: You will have to refrain from most household activities for about two weeks. For more information please feel free to contact our office.
