We don’t have to tell you: women with overly large natural breasts can experience a number of problems beyond finding a bra that fits properly. Neck and shoulder pain, deep grooves in the shoulders from bra straps, skin abrasions, rashes, and self-consciousness are just a few of the reasons why women come to our practice for a breast reduction.
Dr. Jeremy Pyle is a cosmetic breast surgery specialist who can help you feel more confident and comfortable about your breast size. The team at Davis & Pyle Plastic Surgery in Raleigh, NC looks forward to meeting and working with you.
What to Expect
Your first step will be to meet with Dr. Pyle. Together you will discuss why you are considering a breast reduction and what you hope to look and feel like after surgery. Dr. Pyle is known for putting patients at ease, and he understands what a big decision this is for you. If you decide to move forward with a breast reduction at Davis & Pyle Plastic Surgery, you can count on Dr. Pyle to use the latest techniques to achieve an attractive look with as little scarring as possible. For most women, breast reduction incisions are very similar to those of more involved breast lifts, where the incision encircles the nipple, extends down to the breast crease, and then spans a certain width of the breast crease itself.
During surgery, excess breast tissue and skin are removed, and the remaining tissue is lifted and tightened. Where possible, the nipple-areola complex is kept connected to the underlying breast tissue, nerves, and blood supply to retain sensation following surgery. In cases where very large breasts have sagged significantly, the nipple may need to be removed and re-placed to a higher location on the breast. Large areolas can be trimmed for a more aesthetic look.
Dr. Pyle uses fine, absorbable sutures to close the incisions. Absorbable sutures offer the benefit of increased comfort, and you will not need to return to the office for suture removal. Dr. Pyle does not use drains at the incision site, which decreases the risk of infection and shortens recovery time.
After Your Procedure
When you are sent home to begin your recovery process you will be encouraged to engage in light activity but otherwise take a break from your usual activities. Following surgery, you can expect some discomfort and soreness at first. A support garment will be worn initially to provide comfort, help reduce swelling, and facilitate healing. Typically, women who have a breast reduction can return to work or school after one to two weeks and are fully healed in one to two months. However, patient experiences vary.
The New You
Imagine having breasts that are more comfortable with a better proportioned size and improved, perkier shape. Many of our breast reduction patients say that they wish they had chosen surgery sooner and can’t believe what a positive impact the surgery has had on their lives. The ability to exercise more easily and find more clothing options often inspires women who’ve had a breast reduction to improve their overall health and fitness.
