Double Chin and Facial Liposuction
Fat deposits in the lower face, neck, and chin can add years to your appearance or make you look like you weigh more than you actually do. It can be a frustrating situation for patients because the areas are often resistant to diet and exercise. With facial liposuction, also known as submental liposuction, Dr. Glenn M. Davis, Dr. Jeremy Pyle, and Dr. Benjamin Wood can reduce unwanted fat to reveal more youthful facial contours. Dramatic results can be seen with this quick procedure, which typically only requires a weekend recovery.

The Best Candidates
Ideal candidates are men and women who have firm, elastic skin but struggle with fatty deposits under the chin or lower face, such as the jowls. Facial liposuction could be the perfect answer for eliminating a “double chin,” which is often genetically inherited. It’s important to have realistic expectations about the results that are possible with facial liposuction.
For example, if you would like to reduce fat in targeted facial areas, yet have loose or sagging skin, a combination of procedures, including a facelift, may be needed for the results you want. Your surgeon will provide a thorough consultation to develop a treatment plan that’s designed to meet your appearance goals.
“I keep looking at myself in the mirror and can’t help but smile. I would have never dreamed that a one-hour procedure would change the way I look and feel about myself.
I have always had a double chin and wished that somehow it would miraculously go away. I knew that I would never have a neck lift so I let the idea rest. Then one day I met a friend who recommended Dr. Davis and told me about neck liposuction.”
What to Expect
The process for facial lipo is very similar to liposuction performed elsewhere on the body, although on a much smaller scale in terms of instruments used and fat removed.
First, the area will be completely numbed using local anesthesia. Next, one tiny incision will be made under the chin. A saline solution is then injected to help emulsify the fat, making it easier to remove. A narrow surgical wand called a cannula is used to withdraw the fat cells, leaving behind a slimmer profile.
Before you leave, we will place you in a facial compression garment that you will wear for the first 48 hours after your procedure, followed by five additional days at bedtime only. This timeframe may vary between patients.
After Your Procedure
Since facial liposuction is minimally invasive, the recovery period is shorter than liposuction of the body. Patients may experience some minor bruising or swelling at first, which should dissipate in a day or two. The final results of your liposuction should be revealed over the next few weeks as the skin adjusts closer to the muscles to compensate for the absent fat deposits. As with liposuction of the body, fat cells that are removed don’t grow back. Therefore, as long as current weight is maintained, the treated areas should retain their new look.
Facial liposuction is frequently incorporated as part of a more comprehensive treatment plan. Non-surgical treatments such as BOTOX® Cosmetic and injectable fillers can be combined with facial liposuction for more complete facial rejuvenation.
